A Vercel alternative for vibe-coded backends
Vercel is excellent at what it's built for: frontends and serverless functions on a global edge network. Vibe-coded projects often grow past that shape — a bot, a worker, a WebSocket server, a SQLite file — and that's where a real server is simpler.
When Vercel is the better choice
- Your project is a Next.js or static frontend and the backend fits in short serverless functions.
- You want a global edge network and preview deployments for every pull request.
When a real server is the better choice
- Something must keep running — a bot, a queue worker, a scheduled scraper, a WebSocket or game server.
- You want a database or files on a persistent disk next to the app.
- You need a language or a system package a function runtime doesn't offer — it's a full Ubuntu box with root.
- You want your coding agent to deploy and operate it by itself, over an API and SSH.
You can also combine them: keep the frontend on Vercel and run the backend on a server here.
Moving a project over
you → your agent
“Fetch thevibehosting.com/SKILL.md and deploy this project there. Move the environment variables over, and give me the URL.”
The agent recreates your environment variables on the server, installs dependencies and starts the app. Your old deployment keeps working until you switch the domain. See what's free and all the hosting options.
Try it: paste this to Claude Code, Cursor or Codex.
