MCP server hosting
An MCP server on your laptop serves one client on one machine. Hosted, it becomes a URL that Claude, Cursor, Codex, your teammates and agents running elsewhere can all call. The Vibe Hosting gives each MCP server its own Ubuntu box with root access and an HTTPS address — and your coding agent sets it up for you.
What you get
- A real server, not a function. A long-running process, so streamable HTTP sessions, server-sent events and background work behave as they do locally. No request timeouts to design around.
- HTTPS out of the box on
your-name.thevibehosting.com, or on your own domain with a verified phone. - Any language. Python (FastMCP / the official SDK), TypeScript, Go — whatever runs on Ubuntu.
- Restarts on crash. The server process starts from
/root/run.shand comes back if it dies. - Root SSH for your agent: it installs dependencies, reads logs and redeploys without a dashboard.
How much does MCP server hosting cost?
You pay for the RAM the server actually uses while it is awake — $0.005 per GB-hour — after a free monthly credit. A typical MCP server needs far less than 256 MB.
| Setup | Cost per month |
|---|---|
| Sleeps when idle, wakes on request (default) | usually $0 — covered by the free credit |
| 128 MB, always on (24/7) | about $0.45 — inside the $2.25 free credit of a verified account |
| 512 MB, always on (24/7) | about $1.80 — still inside the free credit |
| Anonymous (no signup) | Verified (phone) | |
|---|---|---|
| Free credit, every month | $0.90 | $2.25 — a 512 MB server runs 24/7 free |
| RAM per server | up to 256 MB | up to 2 GB (4 GB once you hold paid credit) |
| CPU | up to 2 cores, always free | |
| Always-on (never sleeps) | no — sleeps when idle, wakes on the next request | yes, optional per server |
| Your own domain | no | yes, up to 3 per server, HTTPS automatic |
| Servers | 2 per network | unlimited |
| Credit card | never required to start | |
After the free credit: RAM $0.005 per GB-hour while the server is awake, outbound traffic $0.10/GB, disk $0.25 per GB-month. No plans, no reserved sizes — you pay for what actually runs.
Sleep or always-on?
An idle server sleeps after about 10 minutes and wakes on the next request: that first request gets
503 with Retry-After: 1 and the retry succeeds a few seconds later. Clients that retry cope
on their own. If yours doesn't, or you want instant tool calls, mark the server always-on (verified phone).
stdio servers
Many MCP servers are written for stdio — the client starts them as a local process. To host one, it has to
speak an HTTP transport. Most SDKs switch with one setting (in Python's FastMCP: mcp.run(transport="streamable-http"));
for a server you didn't write, your agent can wrap it with an stdio-to-HTTP bridge. Ask it to.
Security: don't publish your tools
- Require a bearer token on every request and keep it in an env file on the server.
- Give each tool the least access it needs — a read-only database user, a scoped API key.
- Log tool calls so you can see what agents did.

FAQ
Can I host an MCP server for free?
Yes. A server that sleeps when idle is usually covered by the free monthly credit, and with a verified phone a small MCP server can run 24/7 inside the $2.25 monthly credit. No credit card is needed to start.
Which MCP clients can connect?
Any client that supports remote MCP servers over HTTP — for example Claude, Claude Code, Cursor and other agents. You add the HTTPS URL and pass your token as a header.
Do I need Docker?
No. You get a full Ubuntu server with root access; the MCP server runs as a normal process started from /root/run.sh.
Can it reach my database or private APIs?
It can reach anything on the public internet that you allow. Keep credentials in an env file on the server, never in the code.
What about my own domain?
With a verified phone you can serve the MCP server from your own domain; HTTPS is issued automatically once DNS points to us.
Try it: paste this to Claude Code, Cursor or Codex.
